Dear Heart Ridge Almonds:
I am a thirteen year old girl. My allergy story starts out like this. When I was two years old, I was diagnosed with a nut allergy. So for most of the time my Mom cooks and bakes. It’s hard to eat out knowing in the back of my mind that I could die. But I’m over that. It’s not as easy as it sounds to find packaged foods either. Even in my middle school I have a daily challenge to second guess if it’s actually okay for me to eat. So it’s just one of those super annoying things that I’ve been dealing with everyday for the past eleven years.
We have gone to so many health food stores over the years it could turn into a book. We’ve gone from Washington D.C. to Maryland, all over Pennsylvania,Phoenix AZ,NYC, NY, without having any luck in finding what we were searching for. It seemed simple, the products are out there.
I am definitely allergic to peanuts, but possibly not to tree nuts. My Dr. recommended a tree nut challenge a year ago. I needed to try one peanut-free tree nut. One a day for one week to see if I’m allergic. We exhausted our search over several months of calling and emailing companies to find a tree nut that wasn’t cross contaminated. We had no luck.
My Mom came up with the idea of calling almond growers so we decided to give it a shot. It couldn’t hurt to try anyway. Now a new search began. Calling nation wide and getting the same results again.
One completely normal summer day, my Mom called Heart Ridge Almonds and told me that we hit the jackpot. Over a week’s time, a box showed up, filled to the brim with almonds in a fancy package. We did the nut challenge… and I survived to tell the tale. Trying almonds for the first time…they’re sweet and over all really good. However it was the strangest thing trying them, considering that other tree nuts are usually cross contaminated.
The first thing my Mother did was turn the almonds into flour and we made french macaroons. On a side note they are amazing and are part of my list of favorite foods. So now I’ll have your almonds pretty much whenever I want. It’s still very strange walking around my house, shoving almonds into my mouth. But they’re great and safe.
Having your almonds opened new doors into the food world for me. Hopefully other people out there in the world who need to find safe almonds will be able to find your company.
13-Year-Old Almond Lover
MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — Seventh generation Madera farmer Bill Pitman is the CEO. His nearby fields even help supply some of the demand. “So I could see an opportunity to be different and make a difference in the marketplace.” said Wade. “I like the Sricacha, the Buffalo Cheddar and the Nacho is pretty awesome,” said Pitman.
It’s already become a spicy success. Since the spring, its been sold across Central and Northern California, and overseas to Hong Kong.
Inside just 26 employees are a part of the process from start to finish. “I have a wonderful family at home and a wonderful family at work — so its great place to come to work,” said Wade.
We’re vertically integrated. We do everything here except the hulling and shelling process. So we grow the almonds, harvest the almonds, they in turn go to the huller/sheller, they in turn come to us,” said Brett Wade, Heart Ridge Farms operations manager.
Hello Heart Ridge Farms,
I grew up & raised my kids in Fresno, but I now live in the Bay area and my kids are in college in San Diego & Reno. Every year we all come ‘home to Fresno’ to go to the Clovis rodeo with my parents. My daughter & I stopped at the Vons on Kings Canyon & Clovis for a few items and sampled Heart Ridge almonds from the gentleman that was in the store. They were so yummy and we bought several packs. I gave some to my fiance to try on a plane trip to Florida. Well the whole family is now in Florida for a few weeks and the UPS man just delivered 2 25 pound boxes of Heart Ridge almonds. My fiancé, said he couldn’t help himself after trying them! I believe we have a wonderful sampling of all of your flavors.
